Family

The past few weeks, we have been in and out of hospital often. In actual fact, we have been in and out of hospitals since early of this year. First, it was my grandma who went for surgery on her hip. Now, it’s my mum-in-law. Sigh!

She recently went for surgery on her spine. She had slipped disc condition that caused her numbness on her legs and back pain. She had been suffering quite awhile this year. My darling and I really pity her though we couldn’t help her much. Of course, he’s more worried for his mum and so is everyone in the family. He’s a good son after all. :P

Her surgery was originally scheduled in September but didn’t for what reason it was postponed to this month. She was hospitalized 2 weeks ago and was prepared for the surgery. But then they found her heartbeat irregular and pushed her out again. The surgery was delayed the second time. Sigh! More the pity. Imagine the emotional preparation she had to go through. Finally, she went for the surgery on Wednesday. Her surgery is a success according to the doctor but she seemed to suffer a bit from the overlong surgery. She has bruised lip and numbness still on her leg. Sigh! She also suffered from gas in her stomach that caused her to vomit. However, she looks a bit better these few days though her leg is still a bit numb, she said.

I just wish she can have a speedy recovery and go home next week. It’s always better resting at home where there are more people around her. We will continue to pray for her…

The Raya holidays passed in a daze. We started off with attending our ex-college mate’s wedding dinner on Saturday night nearby our home. This friend of ours is also my darling’s childhood friend where he’s the good friend with her brother. In her wedding, we were surprised that many old faces – old college mates turned up for the dinner. Seriously, I never expected the dinner to be our reunion. Haha! And we had great time catching up old good times. The best wedding/reunion dinner ever.

I spent nearly the whole day at home enjoying my sofa day and watching movies on Sunday. We had breakfast with family the next morning and dinner at night. I couldn’t really remember what I did in between meals, probably lazing somewhere around the house. Hehe! Only on the last day of the holidays, I spent hours completing part of my IR assignment. I have finally completed my part of the literature review. Hooray to that and I thought I could never finish it off. While working on it in my sister-in-law’s room, my darling took a nap on her bed while she was surfing the net. I made two cups of coffee for myself and my sister-in-law and we enjoyed our time together. Later, I watched the nephew, my sister-in-law and my darling played a game of monopoly. I didn’t join them until much later after I finished my assignment and to take my darling’s place. I bought a lot of land for him but at the end he lost all his money to his sister and went bankrupt. Haha! We really had a good time together.

After the game ended it was already 5 p.m. The three of them together with the father and younger brother all went for a walk around Melawati hill while I was using the opportunity to do some yoga practice at home. With his new added lens, he’s happily capturing photos during that walk.

A happy family enjoying the nature…the younger brother and sister, the nephew and the father…

I love our neighborhood where we can always see green…

What so special about this photo? That’s our family home and I was being spied…The younger brother called and asked me to come out to the balcony. My darling used the camera to spy on me from the hill. Hehe!

After they came back, the whole family prepared to go out again for dinner. It was really a day well spent when you spent it with family. Hehe!

My darling was commenting how lucky I am being his wife that he’s a good husband that provides all he can for me. Yes, I cannot deny he is a very good husband to me. Comparing to many others that we know. My mum-in-law was present at the time we were debating. She’s smiling all the way listening to our conversation. Then I said to my darling, “Yes, you are the best for me but don’t forget if you don’t have me as your wife, you can never find another wife who can tolerate all your weird habits”. Without hesitation, my mum-in-law agreed with me, saying “Yes, yes, you are right wor…” We were all laughing while my darling was speechless at that moment. Probably feeling betrayed by his own mum who took my side. Haha! Then he said that’s not fair and he wanted to appeal. To whom? There’s only my father-in-law in the kitchen at that moment. On second thought, he gave up. Why? Cause he knew his own father will take my side too. Haha! No matter what my darling does, his parents will normally take my side cause I have become their best daughter-in-law. And of course they know their son just too well. Hehe! Of course, I can’t thank God enough for giving me the best parents-in-law in this world especially my mum-in-law who is the most understanding and compassionate.  Okay la…can’t deny I have the best husband too and he is glad that I get along well with his parents, despite all the bad things that we heard occasionally from friends who don’t get too well with in-laws…

Last Saturday was hectic for us. My sister-in-law went into labour on Friday night. Surgery was done around 11 p.m. My new nephew was born on 7 Aug 09, a day before my father-in-law and my sister-in-law’s birthday. And I was hoping to celebrate birthday for all three on the same day. Haha! But I guess it doesn’t matter now, their birthdays will be celebrated together from now on. Haha!

Here he is. Weight 3.1 kg. I don’t get his name right yet so I’m just going to call him cute baby. Hehe!

As I said, it was my father-in-law’s birthday last Saturday, it has become customary for me as a daughter-in-law to buy a cake. I have been doing that since before I married actually. One cake for mother-in-law and one cake for father-in-law every year. The siblings would buy dinner for both of them every year on their birthdays, father’s day and mother’s day. This year, I bought another cake from Secret Recipe (coz it’s near and convenient, not really because they are very good). My younger sister-in-law picked the cake. It’s a cappucino cheese cake.

Then at night, my darling planned to have dinner on our own. We had our tom yam steamboat again. Spent time in the living room watching downloaded movie. We watched 2 movies that night, Splinter and 12 Rounds. Both are quite awesome, especially 12 Rounds. On the next day, we watched Taken. Again it’s so cool, I love the movie. But again, maybe I watch too much now. I should have studied instead. I did a bit nonetheless. Hehe!

I have been wondering whether my puppy is not growing up. It’s nearly 4 months but her size is still almost the same. Then we concluded that probably she’s so much like her mother, the medium size type that she won’t grow any bigger or taller than her mother. Hehehe! Honestly, we just hope she’s not unwell, that’s all matter. We will have to wait and see…

She really has her mother’s feature and temperament. The same type of ears, brows and legs. She’s very mild-tempered, rarely makes noise but can definitely eat a lot. As puppy, she likes to chew on anything, especially my slippers. However, we lately found out, that might not be entirely true. She likes my slippers all right, but she normally just picked up one side of my slippers and hide it. Rarely chew on it but still will have one or two teeth marks. Haha!

She’s our joy in the household. I bet her mother is happy too. Always playful with her mother. She has made enemy with the house cat. Chasing and fighting for food with the chicken are her favorite pasttime of the day. Despite her leg injury, she still runs and jumps a lot. The only thing she’s afraid now is seeing car. She will turn around and hide immediately. Bad spot in her memory. Forever I guess.

My darling decided to treat his family for breakfast last Sunday. I wanted to buy some special cakes for my aunt for her birthday, so I asked for suggestion from my sister-in-law who works in Pavilion. So, we ended up brought the family to Pavilion for breakfast @ Madam Kwan, Pavilion. I would say it’s the most expensive breakfast ever. Hehe! Anyway, I guess it doesn’t matter as we got to spend quality time with family on a beautiful Sunday. Spend once in a way is acceptable I guess even though we already feel the impact of bad economy. I also bought yummy cakes from Lavender’s, though I myself not too fancy about cakes so I didn’t taste any, but I heard the cakes from Lavender’s are good. I hope they are. Hehe!

In the evening, I spent 2.5 hours in tuition class. On my way home, I called my darling and asked him what he wanted for dinner? You see, since the start of semester, I have changed my tuition to Sundays starting from 7pm to 9pm or sometimes later. For the past few weeks, our dinner time on Sundays are irregular. Sometimes we would eat before I go for my class. Sometimes like last Sunday, we only ate after my class around 9.30pm. The problem was we didn’t know what we could eat. The most convenient food was McD. I know eating fast food so late at night is really bad for health. I really feel guilty about it. However, nothing much I could do. Stomach was rumbling. I went to the nearest McD and saw a very long queue at the Drive-Thru. Sigh! Then, I went past the front entrance and saw another long queue of people. I gave up on it and turned back. At the end, I went to KFC instead. Sigh! And after the meal, both of us couldn’t sleep well.

This seriously cannot be continued. For this Sunday, I will cook for my darling. No more suffering from fast food. We must try to live healthy. The truth is we are not that young anymore. Sigh!

All the puppies have been adopted by good people last month, except the black one that we called her Blacky in Cantonese. Hehe! I was reluctant to give her away for adoption actually. As she was the last one left, I intended to keep her for ourselves. A companion for her mother. A direct descendant from our ‘daughter’, a granddaughter for ourselves.

She’s now quite big, weighing at 5.6kg. Isn’t she adorable?

She’s not the most active among her siblings, hence she’s not the first choice during adoption. She chose to hide herself most of the time when people came to pick up her siblings. But the funny part was once her siblings were all gone, she came out from hiding and became all active. Totally playful with her mother. I guess she must be thinking now that she has her mother 100% attention and all the food without sharing. Haha! She’s adorable just like the rest of her siblings. Although she doesn’t really look like her mother, she has her mother’s mild temperament. Of course, a puppy is still a puppy. She still tends to be playful and like to chew on shoes. Especially my slippers. Hehe!

She’s exactly 3 months old as of yesterday. Unfortunately, it was her second time visiting the vet in this week.  Her left leg was injured due to an accident and she just had x-ray done to see how bad her condition was. The vet said there’s a fracture on her leg. The best solution, of course, is surgery but it would cost at least RM700. Another solution would be to let her rest and not move about for 4 weeks. OMG! I wonder if that’s possible as once she’s not in so much pain, she tried to move about and refused to be tied down. Sigh! It’s more difficult to tend to a baby, I tell you. She just won’t listen or failed to understand. We are all so worried as she looks so pitiful with her sad eyes. Whining whenever someone touches her, trying to tell us she’s in pain. However, when the vet touched her, she went rigid and no whining at all. I guess she could smell the vet and fear.

We truly hope she will get well soon. The vet said she’s a puppy and her healing process is very fast. Though her bone may not heal back to her original condition, but she will heal nonetheless and walk normal again. Let’s pray for her.

Yesterday was my mum-in-law’s birthday. As her only daughter-in-law (and the best one, hehe) for the time being, I bought a cake for her. We bought Secret Recipe’s chocolate strawberry cake for the first time. Didn’t know they have such cake. I used to eat chocolate banana cake but never chocolate strawberry. As I’m not really a cake person, I normally don’t have craving to eat cake. However, I had great craving to eat this chocolate strawberry cake. Hehe! Surprisingly, it didn’t disappoint us. It was rather quite nice.

Okay, no talking about cake now, which only makes me want to eat again. Let talk about my darling’s family. To me, they are quite weird in a way. They never really celebrate birthday on the actual day and all the siblings don’t really care. For instance, no one makes an effort to do something special for their mum’s birthday. For years, I’m the only one buying cake for her. I bet I’m the only one who greets her ‘Happy Birthday’ too. Of course, I have to ‘force’ my darling to give birthday wishes to his mum and he did for all the years I’m with him. What’s best about his family is his mum doesn’t seem to mind. She’s a simple lady who doesn’t care about such thing. All she cares are a family dinner out one day when everyone can make it. The dinner is yet to come. Still have to wait for everyone to agree on a day and time that all can make it.

Anyway, I guess as long as she’s happy and okay with things as it is now, we are all cool. I just make sure I do my part as a good daughter-in-law and dutiful wife. Hu hu! By the way, my birthday is just 3 days away and I have already received my first birthday present from my sister-in-law. More hu hu!

We had a great birthday bash for my darling’s grandmother last Sunday. All her children, most of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were there in my in-law’s house for the party. Sadly to say that grandmother is rather too old to recognise anyone and she couldn’t really move about. But it was still a great party for family gathering with great food and laughter.

A special birthday cake for grandmother…There’s a lot more food prepared by my father-in-law, myself and sister-in-law and some brought over by the relatives…Click the photo to see more food photos…

Honestly, we both are never close with the relatives. Other than special occasions such as weddings and grandmother’s birthday, we rarely see each other. I don’t even know most of their names and I bet neither do they know my name other than referring me as my darling’s wife. Hehe! Anyway, I really enjoy such gathering but I hate cleaning up after. Of course I did it nonetheless because I’m part of the family.  Actually, everyone in the family (not talking about those relatives that came) worked so hard to prepare, provide, entertain and clean after the party.  I’m glad we all really worked together as a family. After all, family is everything…hehehe!

This year is full of babies stories, I tell you. First, there’s my sister-in-law, who is expecting her second child in July. Then, there’s our ‘daughter’ Michi pregnant for the first time. Never happened before for all these 8 years she’s with us. We were shocked initially and were rather afraid for her. She’s considered old in her doggy years. Her papa (aka my darling) was extremely worried. She’s his baby darling…his precious daughter. He wanted to strangle the male dog who managed to sneak into the house. Sigh! It’s all too late. We could do nothing except let the nature takes its course.

Here’s Michi in her favorite pose…

We had been wondering when she would give birth. I googled about it and found that dog takes 60-65 days to give birth. So I counted that it’s going to be in April. Everyone was expecting and rather a bit worried too. We had never experienced this before. My father-in-law was keeping careful eyes with her whereabouts and behaviour. Found her restless one night, seemed like looking for spot and later found a place to hide in the storeroom. We knew her time was near. Finally, on April 2, she gave birth to four cute puppies. All by herself. My father-in-law saw them and put all of them into a big container. Now the mum and children are residing comfortably in them, although I feel it needs cleaning, probably later.

See, they are so small. It’s my first time seeing new born puppies.

They are so adorable. I wonder when their eyes will open…

It’s really a wonderful event seeing our ‘daughter’ being mummy. We don’t know what’s in her mind but she’s a dedicated mum, feeding and taking care of her children. It’s a wonder how dog takes things like these so naturally, without help. That’s the wonder of life, I guess.

We are now officially the ‘grandparents’, okay? Very excited to see more progress with our ‘grandchildren’. Though soon we will have to find homes for them as we can’t take all of them with us. Rather sad that we can’t have them all. Hoping there are good people who are willing to adopt them…
